Enhancing SEND pupil support

Improving Support For Pupils With SEND Through Trained and Supervised Teaching Assistants

sendTA partners with schools across London to provide trained, supervised and supported Teaching Assistants who are equipped to understand the needs of pupils with SEND.

Our Teaching Assistants are carefully selected, receive training that matches the requirements of their learners, and are supported through ongoing supervision and professional development. By working closely with schools, we aim to improve the consistency, quality, and impact of support available to children with additional needs.

sendTA was created by the team behind Words First Ltd, highly successful multidisciplinary company that has worked in schools for almost two decades supporting pupils with SEND.

our approach

A Different Approach to SEND Teaching Assistants

Many schools rely on agency Teaching Assistants who receive little preparation or support before entering the classroom. How can the most challenging and needy children / young people be supported by adults with the least amount of training and supervision? At sendTA we want to fix that. We believe that every young person deserves to be supported by an adult who truly understands their needs and knows how best to support them to achieve their potential.

sendTA was created to bridge the gap between the learners needs and the Teaching Assistant’s skills set.

We focus on:

Recruiting individuals who want to build a career supporting pupils with SEND

Providing structured and setting-specific training before Teaching Assistants begin working in schools

Offering ongoing supervision and professional guidance from our highly specialist team

Working in partnership with schools to understand their needs

Everything we do keeps children at the centre.

What Makes sendTA Different

Specialist SEND Training

Every sendTA Teaching Assistant completes core training in SEND as well as setting-specific training before being deployed to your school. You can be sure that your sendTA will start on day one with a strong foundation in SEND and have the knowledge and tools to begin supporting their learners regardless of their needs.

Training is developed and delivered by the Words First clinical team, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Educational Psychologists who work directly in schools.

Teaching Assistants also learn practical classroom strategies drawn from the frameworks developed by the Words First therapy team.

Ongoing Supervision and Support

Teaching Assistants often work in roles that can feel isolated.

By joining sendTA , Teaching Assistants receive high quality training and clinical supervision. Many of our TAs will go on to become teachers / SENCOs and therapists, using the foundation they received whilst at sendTA as a springboard to success.
